Top 8 Photography Spots in Hanoi
Save your photos at 8 of the best photography Spots in Hanoi. Don't miss it if you have a trip to the capital of Vietnam
Hanoi is one of my favourite cities in South East Asia and is incredibly photogenic. Throughout the city you’ll find fantastic landmarks, beautiful architecture and streets, friendly locals and heaps of things to photograph. In this post you’ll find my tips and suggestions on things you should take pictures of during your visit, including a link to the spot on Google Maps, if the location is free, and the best time to take photographs.
1. Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is one of the most important landmarks in the city, and the final resting place of their Revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh.
The Mausoleum is nice for photographs during the day, but I preferred it at night. There are security around and they won’t let you use a tripod so you may have to either up your ISO, or get lower to the ground and use your bag. When taking pictures during the day you may catch the guards marching which is interesting to watch.

2. St. Joseph's Cathedral, Hanoi
St Joseph's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church built in the Neo-Gothic Style. It's almost out of place in the city and definitely worth a try.

3. Tran Quoc Pagoda
The Tran Quoc Pagoda is towards the north-west of the city and is on a small island on the West Lake. It’s the oldest Buddhist temple in the city and is very pretty to photograph, especially at night. You’ll also be able to use the water to capture reflections and enhance your composition.

4. Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural
This beautiful and famous mosaic has been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest mosaic with a length of more than 4000m. You'll find it near the Old Quarter along a road called Yen Phu, as well as connecting roads.

5. Hoàn Kiếm Lake
Hoan Kiem Lake is beautiful and a great place to hang out and walk around. Around the lake you will find various elements that are perfect for photography. Such as The Huc Bridge (lower left red bridge) and Turtle Tower. The lake is especially beautiful to photograph at night when it's lit, and if you're close by, you might find it a great place to watch the sunset.

6. Thang Long Imperial Citadel
Thang Long Imperial Citadel is a historical site of the ancient Thang Long citadel. This is a massive architectural work, built by dynasties in many historical periods and has become the most important relic in the system of monuments of Vietnam. The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long has been recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage.
7. Long Bien Bridge
Long Bien Bridge, a bridge across the Red River connecting two armies, Hoan Kiem and Long Bien. It was once the second longest bridge in the world (only after the Brooklyn Bridge over the East-River in the US), even called the horizontal Eiffel Tower of Hanoi.
The bridge has witnessed two long-term resistance wars of our nation, the resistance against the French colonialists and the resistance against the US imperialists.
8. Dong Xuan Markets
Around the city and especially around Dong Xuan Market, you will find fruits, vegetables and other types of stalls. These make great photos. I don't really get anything that fits Instagram, but if you take your time, I'm sure you can. You can also simply take a photo to capture the culture of the city.
